About the role:

Due to strategic business planning, to better serve their client’s needs now and in the future, the firm is augmenting their Renewal Practice with a Senior Mechanical Engineer. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Managing Principal and other Practice Leaders in continuing to expand their market share in New York City and the surrounding Tri-State area.

The Renewal Practice provides building owners and managers with a wide range of envelope, structural and mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection services for structures of all types. They conduct performance investigations, condition assessments, pre-purchase due diligence surveys, feasibility studies and peer reviews. They design repairs, renovations, and alterations and oversee their execution. MEP + FP services focus on evaluation of performance and appropriate upgrades, replacements and improvements. With their sustainability practice, they help owners identify opportunities form energy savings, and they design upgrades to meet those objectives

This individual will be expected to manage and execute electrical engineering projects for existing residential, commercial, and institutional buildings. Project types include: renovation / alteration design, peer reviews, feasibility studies, failure investigations. The candidate will be required to provide direction to and review the work product of junior and mid-level staff, coordinate with other project managers on interdisciplinary efforts, support marketing and business development efforts, and develop and maintain client relationships.

The candidate’s experience should include the design and evaluation of a broad range of electrical systems including, at minimum, building distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and emergency power generation, for commercial and residential buildings of varying sizes and complexities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain new and existing client relationships
  • Develop detailed scope and fee proposals. Negotiate contracts with clients
  • Manage and monitor project budgets, schedule, and staffing
  • Collaborate with our in-house multidisciplinary team of professionals, which includes: structural engineers, architects, HVAC engineers, electrical engineers, plumbing/fire protection engineers, and site civil engineers, on projects of widely varying sizes and complexities
  • Supervise and mentor staff
  • Lead the analysis of low voltage and medium voltage electrical distribution systems
  • Develop and supervise the development of design/renovation drawings
  • Perform and review required electrical calculations, design, and equipment selections
  • Prepare field notes, feasibility studies, cost analyses, reports, and specifications
  • Perform peer reviews

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • New York State Professional Engineer’s License
  • Significant knowledge of and experience with NYC Building Code
  • 15+ years of experience focused on electrical design/renovation projects for commercial and residential buildings. Experience with institutional, educational, and/or transit facilities a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new business, maintain existing client relationships, develop scope and fee proposals, effectively manage projects, supervise/mentor staff
  • Proficient in both manual and software assisted calculations
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Meticulous work ethic
