A Trip Down Memory Lane

Looking back over the past 34 years has been a very emotional trip down memory lane for me. There are lots of great stories, scenarios and experiences that could fill a book (and a best seller to boot). You can’t make this stuff up! I would have to change the names to protect the “guilty”.  But we will see.

As I move into the next stage of my career and life there are so many great possibilities to look forward to and opportunities for change at Gaines International and Allen Austin.   I have witnessed many changes in the last three decades.

Let’s look back to the not so distant past, 1998, where it was a new concept to ask your current employees to refer-in candidates for consideration and to offer them a stipend for doing so; quite an avant-garde thing to do at the time!  While this is still going on, “back then” it was a new approach to recruiting.

Over the years we have as a firm, had many strong relationships with organizations like PSMJ. Some personal highlights of our firm’s rich history: being on the advisory board for PSMJ, writing articles for their newsletter, having Architectural Record write a feature article about myself, and so many “headhunting” adventures!

While thinking about days gone by, I am reminded of where I have come from and the contribution that our firm has given to the design profession. When you are ready to move forward, you must remember where you have come from. With this in mind, I am going to take us on a historical journey down memory lane, and in the upcoming weeks we will repost relevant articles written by our team, for everyone to enjoy once more.

So keep your eyes open for some really great articles from the past that might ring true again all too soon!
