How to Make Your Work Day More Successful
The other day, I stumbled upon an article about what successful people do with the first hour of their work day. And it made me take a step back to see how I approach my day and if there’s anything I could be doing better. Here’s what I discovered.
What I found the most interesting – you should be relaxing and maintaining a balance.
Call me crazy, but I think that goes against what we typically think when we hear the word successful.
We’ve always been taught that if we want to be a success we have to work hard. And I think all too often people translate that to working excessive hours to get everything done. But working hard doesn’t mean you have to work a lot. It just means you have to work hard when you’re working (and make sure you’re completing the tasks you need to). You also have to breathe and be human sometimes too.
What I’m the worst at – checking email during the first hour.
I do it. Almost every day. In fact, it’s usually the first thing I do. Sometimes I’ve even been known to log in before 9:00 am (when the day technically starts for me). I actually thought this method made my day a little more productive.
What I’m pretty good at — getting the stuff I don’t want to do out of the way.
It’s actually how I am with everything in life and why I can’t sleep in on the weekends. I tend to have the “just get it done” attitude. Then, I can nap (on the weekends) or move on to something more fun (at work). I find it almost helps me to get things done because it’s a bit of a reward at the end.
So, all in all, I should probably get a kudos for what I’m doing well, but I think there could be a few adjustments in my day to be more successful. I don’t know if I will ever be the person who waits to check their email, but I can definitely work to find a balance and relax a little.
